CardStar features SyncScan™ technology that produces the most accurate barcode imaging possible on a mobile device screen.
We've tested CardStar succesfully against various laser side scanners, laser scanning guns and imaging (CCD) scanning guns. You may encounter some difficulties with flatbed laser scanners, but these models typically come with a scanning gun attachment which should be used when available.
Please keep in mind that scanning success depends greatly on the hardware on which it is running. We have identified a number of ways to improve scanning over a variety of Android devices — and we'll be introducing these improvements in forthcoming versions of CardStar for Android.
For best results:
1) Make sure the screen is free of dust and fingerprints — the SCREEN MUST BE CLEAN. If you use a screen protector and have had problems scanning, you may want to remove it and try again.
2) Keep the screen just shy of perpendicular to the scanner and hold the barcode image steady (don't wave around).
3) Hold the screen approximately 5-7 inches from the scanning device.
4) Keep the screen in a vertical (portrait) orientation. Only use horizontal (landscape) orientation when the barcode is too wide to display otherwise.
5) At a self-checkout flatbed scanner, move the screen towards the vertical backplate mirror while keeping the phone upright. Do not place the phone down on the scanner window.
In the event that a barcode does not scan, CardStar displays your number prominently, so that you or the cashier can enter the number by hand.
We are actively working on improving our scanning success rates, so please let us know if you experience any problems.
