Create a Profile

 

Save network settings and network device settings in a profile.

If you use several networks, you can create and save a profile for each set of network settings.

Here we will learn how to configure the optimal network connection settings and create profiles for connection to office, home, and client company networks.

Connecting to the office network and creating a profile

 


Let's create a profile with the stored office network settings that we checked in the section Profiles.
The following settings are stored in the profile.

 

Office profile

Internet Settings

Use a proxy server for your LAN is selected and proxy addresses are set.
The home page address is set to http://www.dynabook.com/

Devices

Wired network devices are enabled.
Wireless network devices and infrared devices are disabled.
The Bluetooth antenna is turned off.

TCP/IP Settings

The DHCP setting is disabled. The IP address is set to 192.168.0.101, the subnet mask is set to 255.255.255.0, the default gateway address is set to 192.168.0.1, and the DNS server address is set to 192.168.0.1.

Internet Connection Firewall Settings

This setting is not captured.

Default Dial-up

This setting is not captured.

Default Printer

Set to office printer.

File and Printer Sharing Settings

This setting is not captured.

Bluetooth Security Level

This setting is not captured.

Left-click the ConfigFree Iconicon in the system tray.

Move the cursor to Profile.

Click Add New Profile.


Add Profile screen appears.
Select Capture and click OK.

This is displayed when you create a profile for the first time.

Enter the profile name (required).

Enter the name of the profile you want to create.
Office is entered.

Enter comments.

Enter any profile comments.
Network Connection Setting at Office Environment is entered.

Click Change and select an icon.

Click Change to display the icon selection window, and then you can select an icon.

Select the captured items.

Internet Settings, Devices, TCP/IP, and Default Printer are checked and Internet Connection Firewall Settings, and Default Dial-up are unchecked.

Auto Switch setting

This is displayed when connecting with a wireless network. Because wireless devices have been disabled, this setting is grayed out.

Set program to start after switching profiles.

Click Browse and select the program to start.

Select Internet Explorer to start after switching profiles. Enter C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\IEXPLORE.EXE (in Windows XP).

6Program to start after switching profiles
The program of your choice can be started after profiles are switched. This can be set up by using any of the following methods.

-Specifying a program
Enter the location and name of the program to execute. Click Browse if the location and name of the program are to remain the same.
Example: To start Internet Explorer, enter the following.
 C:\WINDOWS\explorer.exe (in Windows XP)

-Specifying a file name
Enter the location and name of the file to open. The corresponding application is started and the file is opened.
Example: To open Document.doc in the C:drive root directory, enter the following.
 C:\Document.doc

-Specifying a Web site address (URL)
Enter the URL of the Web site to open. The Internet browser starts and accesses the specified Web site.
Example: Enter the URL as follows.
 http://www.toshiba.com

-Specifying a program and parameters
An application can be executed with specific parameters. Place the application in double quotation marks ("). List the parameters after the application.
Example: To open a text file with Notepad, enter the following.
(The application is Notepad and the parameter is the file name c:\program files\toshiba\ConfigFree\readme.txt.)
"Notepad" c:\program files\toshiba\ConfigFree\readme.txt

Left-click the ConfigFree Iconicon in the system tray.

Move the cursor to the currently selected (checked) profile.

The created profiles are displayed in the left-hand window and the captured settings are indicated with an icon. When an icon is selected, detailed information of that setting is displayed in the right-hand window.

Connecting to the home network and creating a profile

 


Now we will configure the network settings in the PC so we can connect to the home network. Let's create a profile to store the home network settings.
The following settings are stored in the profile.

 

Home profile

Internet Settings

LAN Settings (proxy server settings, etc.): Use a proxy server for your LAN is not selected.
Home page address: http://www.bbb.toshiba.com/

Devices

Wireless network devices are enabled.
Wired network devices and infrared devices are disabled.
The Bluetooth antenna is turned off.

TCP/IP Settings

The DHCP setting is enabled. The IP address, subnet mask, and default gateway address are configured for automatic retrieval.
The DNS server and WINS server address settings are not configured.

Internet Connection Firewall Settings

This setting is not captured.

Default Dial-up

This setting is not captured.

Default Printer

Set to home printer.

File and Printer Sharing Settings

This setting is not captured.

Bluetooth Security Level

This setting is not captured.

Because the connection is over a wireless network, the network name (SSID) is displayed. The Auto Switch setting is not configured, so this setting is not checked.

Specify the address (URL) of your favorite Internet site.
Enter http://www.toshiba.com

Creating a profile for a mobile dial-up connection

 


Now let's create a profile so we can connect to the network using a mobile dial-up connection.
The following settings are stored in the profile.

Home page address: http://www.toshiba.com/

Devices

Wired and wireless network devices and infrared devices are disabled.
The Bluetooth antenna is turned off.

Use firewall

Default Dial-up

Dial-up 1 is selected.
Dial whenever a network connection is not present is selected.

Default Printer

This setting is not captured.

File and Printer Sharing Settings

Disable sharing files and printers

Bluetooth Security Level

This setting is not captured.

 Editing a profile

 

You can edit a profile that you created.

The items that can be edited include the profile name, comments, profile icon, Auto Switch setting, and Program to start after switching profiles.

To enable this setting, check Use this SSID to automatically switch profiles.

When this setting is enabled, the following items can be edited.
- Skin of notification window
- Sound played when notification window appears

Note: This setting is grayed out and cannot be edited for profiles created without being connected to a wireless network.

Note: Captured items cannot be edited.

Registering a new profile icon
You can register your favorite icon to be used when adding or editing a profile. A folder labeled ICON is stored in the location where ConfigFree is installed (usually C:\Program Files\TOSHIBA\ConfigFree). You can add an icon file directly to this folder. (Set the extension of the icon file to ".ico" . The icon file must contain both 32x32 and 16x16 pixel images.)
Click Change on the Add Profile dialog box to display the added icon in the displayed icon window. You can select unique icons to identify your profiles for easier profile selection.
